MOTHER’S LOVE PREVAIL
IN A FIRE TRAGEDY
| MOST GENUINE LOVE |
Every time she faced
the mirror the scars on her face would vividly remind her of the fateful day.
But today she would meet her daughter again. She had to dress immaculately as
she covered all her scars. Her brave love had amazed the world. The
kind-hearted foster parents who had brought up her daughter as token to her
brave love would bring her back home. She was eager to finally see her princess.
She wanted to hold her dearly like a fragile violin. She would take care of her
dear daughter once again. The memories of that fateful day kept playing on and
on in her mind as she driven to the airport.
The sun was bright, and
the breeze blew calmly that morning. She had to go toil in the garden earlier
today. She had to get a higher wage to buy much warm clothes for her princess.
She would light a small fire to keep Annie warm. The weather was conducive for
her to toil and the day looked promising. She left the hut and opened small
ventilation through the window where the morning sunrays would keep her
daughter warmer.
She had absorbed all
her energy in toiling. She was lost in
thoughts. She was healing from the death of her husband whom she promised to
take great care of Annie. He was her only refuge, now that he was gone, she had
to renew her energy and live on. It was now two months since he left and the
effects of his absence were clearly articulated in her. The strong wind that
blew as she cultivated the garden swayed her making her more comfortable.
The fire burnt the hut
furiously. Her neighbors tried putting it off without luck. Finally, she got
back to her senses as she slowly stretched her back. The cloud of smoke above
caught her attention. She could not trust her eyes. She ran towards her hut
quickly to assure herself her princess was well.
On arrival the fire had
consumed almost the entire hut. Annie was crying loudly scared. She would not
stand the sight of her daughter die. She was the reason she lived. She quickly
ran inside the burning hut and grabbed her princess in her arms. The fire had
burnt her severely. She ran towards the doorstep where she felt her all energy
had being drained off and fell right at the doorstep. The neighbors rushed her
to hospital but her princess was in her safe arms. She was silently smiling in
peace.
They had already
arrived in the airport. Her daughter would arrive any minute now. All she
brought for her daughter was a bunch of letters she always wrote to her every
time she felt she would not stand missing her. She carefully advised her
daughter as if she were seated face to face with her. She would tell her how
much she loved her and what she meant to her. She would love to see her
reflection in her daughter. Today, she would tell it all to her daughter in her
presence . Annie had brought her mum a lot of gifts. Nothing in this world
would ever replace the gift her mother had given her. She had heard what her
mother had done severally but today she would meet her. Behind Annie’s mother
stood her nurse who had been appointed to take care of her. She could tell how
eager she was. She had tried coming her down but nothing would work. Annie was
also anxious too. She would not stand the thought of holding her mum right in
her arms just as she held on the tragic day.
On seeing Annie she was
overwhelmed. She completely lost her senses as she ran towards her daughter who
was pulling her briefcase. The breeze blew stronger as she got closer to Annie
and all her masks fell off. She had exposed her ugly scars. Annie was irritated
and wondered why such an ugly woman would run towards her. In pride Annie ran
throwing her mother to the ground and hugged the nurse who stood steadily
watching all that had happened.
“Mum, we finally meet.”
Shouted Annie as tears of joy ran down her chicks in two streams.
The agony in the nurse
made her dumb. She could not talk. She carefully ran out of the arms of Annie
and ran towards her master. Her scars were bleeding. She carefully took the letters
from her chest as the airport attendants carried her body in a stretcher towards
the ambulance.
Annie was confused by
everything. She could not understand why the mother was so much cold to her.
Before the nurse had followed the ambulance to the hospital, she headed back to
Annie and handed over her letters to her.
“These were your
letters,” revealed the nurse as she rushed to the car.
The woman bled too much
blood. She had no energy left to fight this time. Even her only reason to live
had disowned her. She could not take in the hurt .She just had to die and let
go.
Quickly Annie run after
the nurse and caught up with her. She was now terrified about what was
happening. As they drove she could ask a lot of questions but no one responded
to her questions. When they arrived at the hospital; the nurse directed her to
where her mother was as she pointed at the lifeless woman. Annie walked towards the bed scared as she
held tight her letters on her chest. She was now crying frightened. She looked
at the woman. It was the woman who she had thrown roughly to the ground.
“No! “ Groaned Annie.
She had killed her own mother.
